Unknown does not always mean dangerous
An unknown number can be a delivery driver, a new colleague or a service you use. At the same time it can be spam or a scam attempt. Before you call back, take a moment to check the number.
Check the number first
- Search the number on the internet or on a who called service.
- Look for reports from other users and warning comments.
- Notice the country code, especially if you do not usually receive calls from that region.
Safe behaviour during the call
- Call back when you have time and can fully focus on the conversation.
- Do not agree to payments, contracts or remote access to your computer during a first unexpected call.
- If the call feels strange, say you will think about it and end the conversation.
In many cases you can also contact the company through an official phone number from its website instead of calling back an unknown number directly.
