Why blocking unwanted calls is useful
Repeated telemarketing calls, spam campaigns and scam attempts can be very annoying. Modern smartphones offer several tools that help you block unwanted numbers so they no longer disturb you.
Blocking numbers on Android
- Open the Phone app and go to recent calls.
- Tap the number that you want to block.
- Select the option to block or report spam.
- Future calls from this number will be rejected automatically.
Blocking numbers on iOS
- Open the Phone app and choose Recents.
- Tap the small info icon next to the number.
- Scroll down and select the option to block this caller.
- You can manage blocked contacts later in the settings.
Advanced blocking and spam filters
Many phones or third party apps can filter calls using large community databases of known spam and scam numbers. Some solutions also block calls with hidden caller ID or foreign prefixes.
Keep your block list up to date
From time to time it is good to review your blocked numbers. You can unblock numbers that are no longer a problem and keep your list clean and relevant.
